Beads of Courage
SGBMA is proud to support Beads of Courage, Inc., an arts-in-medicine supportive care program for children coping with serious illness, their families and the health care providers who care for them. In the beginning, the program provided support to children with cancer, but over time they've expanded to provide support to children with other devastating illnesses, including blood disorders, cardiac conditions, burn injuries, and to families with babies in Neonatal Intensive Care Units. Our Beads of Courage Liaison, Terry D'Addio, collects member donations at each meeting, but if you can't make it, you can contact her at tmdaddio@aol.com. Terry makes sure the beads are clean, removes any that have rough edges, then packs them up and sends them to the program headquarters in Arizona, where they're distributed to 100 hospitals in 40 countries.
Starting in 2012, SGBMA will have a quarterly donation theme and display. However donations are not required to comply with the theme! We'll accept whatever beads you think will brighten a child's day. For guidelines on what to donate, click HERE.
Thanks to all our members who have donated in the past and please keep those beads coming!
