Color Theory with Penny Diamanti of Bedazzled.
September 25, 2011

Color influences our lives in countless ways, and as artists creating  with color we share joy and challenges of using it to maximum effect.  This workshop began with a short lecture on the historical and cultural uses and symbolism of color.  We warmed up for hands-on exercises by playing with words about color and exploring our personal responses to our most and least favorite colors.

The majority the four-hour workshop was spent working hands-on with an  awe-inspiring 5-foot diameter color wheel made up of hundreds of strands  of beads.  After we became familiar with the uses of a dynamic color wheel we used the terminology of color theory and harmony and worked individually and in groups and created palettes, analyzied them, and  “pushed” them to be even more exciting and effective.

This experience helped students expand their comfort level with a broader range of colors and gain confidence in their ability to combine colors in innovative and harmonious ways, making their artistic work both easier and more profitable.  And much fun was had by all!
